Tau Epsilon Phi (TEΦ) is a national men’s fraternity founded at Columbia University in New York City in 1910 on the principles of friendship, chivalry and service. Formed by a group of 10 Jewish men who were excluded from membership in other fraternities due to their faith, they dedicated themselves to building an organization free from discrimination. TO LIVE in the light of Friendship; TO WALK in the path of Chivalry; TO SERVE for the love of Service; TO PRACTICE each day friendship—chivalry—service—thus keeping true to these—the three ideals—of the founders of our fraternity—this is the Creed of Tau Epsilon Phi.
The Tau Alpha Chapter of Tau Epsilon Phi is a brotherhood that was founded at the University of Florida (UF) on February 22, 1925. We have a rich, inclusive 95-year history at UF. The Tau Alpha Chapter of TEΦ boasts over 3,500 alumni brothers from all over the country, of all religions, faiths, and colors. Those alumni provide an amazing network to tap into for the college student seeking careers in so many varied fields. TEΦ brothers pride themselves on their strengths in the five S’s: Student Government, Scholarship, Service, Sports, and Social.
TEΦ has a long history of leadership on campus at UF. From past Student Government Presidents, Student Government Production (SGP) Chairs, Accent Speaker’s Bureau Chairs, Florida Blue Key (FBK) members (including one member who was the only three-time President of FBK), to the Student Senate, Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) and Savant-UF Leadership organizations.
TEΦ has traditionally been in the top three fraternities in GPA rankings annually. TEΦ prides itself in competing for the Scholarship Award each and every year.
TEΦ has annually competed for and won in the past the Dan McCarty Trophy for top service fraternity on campus. TEΦ brothers have raised many thousands of dollars for UF’s most popular event: The Dance Marathon. TEΦ traditionally sponsors a philanthropic event annually. Brothers give of their time in many community service activities including blood drives, neighborhood beautification projects, etc.
TEΦ prides itself on competing for the President’s Cup, the trophy awarded to the number one sport’s fraternity on campus. We have a long and storied history of competing on campus and throughout the nation in brother’s flag football leagues. We are the ONLY fraternity flag football team to boast of having played inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium against Steve Spurrier and other Gator football players. TEΦ plays the annual Nose Bowl game against their rival fraternity Pi Lambda Phi, a 70-year tradition. In that game, pledges of both fraternities compete for the Nose Bowl Trophy.
TEΦ socials are second to none – often imitated but never duplicated. Our Saturday Game Day Tail-Gators are legendary as are our socials with the many sororities on campus.
